Halleluyah!
26 01 2011HALLELUYAH
I’ve heard there was a sacred chord
That David played and it pleased the lord
But you don’t really care for music,do you?
Well,it goes like this,the fourth,the fifth
The minor fall and the major lift
The baffled king composing halleluyah
Halleluyah, halleluyah, halleluyah, halleluyah
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty in the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to her kitchen chair
She broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips, she drew the halleluyah
Well,maybe there’s a God above
But all I ever learnt from love
Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you
And its not a cry that you hear at night
Its not somebody who’s seen the light
Its a cold and its a broken halleluyah
Hey baby,i’ve been here before, I’ve seen this room and i’ve walked this floor
You know i used to live alone before i knew you
And i’ve seen your flag on the morn alert
And love is not a victory march, Its a cold and its a broken halleluyah
Well there was a time that you let me know, Its really going long below
But now you never show that to me,do you
And remember when i moved in you,the holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was halleluyah
I did my best, it wasnt much
I couldnt feel so i tried to touch
I told the truth,i didnt come to fool you
And even though it all went wrong
I’ll stand before the lord of songs
With nothing on my tongue but halleluyah
You told me that it was all okay
That this would all be o’er one day
But you dont really know that,do you?
So,this is what you get from lying
That pain is what’s meant to hurt so don’t go saying
I broke your heart when you mean halleluyah!

MY STRAWBERRY
26 01 2010MY STRAWBERRY – Sanmi Abiodun
A flower… made me.
Like a sheep at the altar…
Like a thief at the slaughter…
Like He at Golgotha, my mind was rumbling, mumbling and tumbling.
‘Should I make a rose out of these ashes? Or should I cling to the ashes of a rose?’
Enough hurry
Too much scurry
Enough flurries
Too much worry
The only thing I couldn’t bare was to hear yet another ‘sorry’.
So I tuned my gaze to the frequency of the vestiges and just like a flash, I spotted something…so beautiful in its crimson tide…so mignon, so cute, so lovable, so adorable.
As I dashed towards it, I was taken aback and then overwhelmed by the joie de vivre of its fragrance.
I picked it in a flicker and words tumbled through my lips, ‘my strawberry’.
As I beheld the freshness of its mien and the lushness of its fleece, I became convinced that being called is human but being chosen can only be divine.
I WENT TO BED…
On the wake of the morrow, I beheld my strawberry and even though it made no sounds, everything it muttered, I heard, ‘Oluwasanmi, you are the best’. ‘Hmmnnn…’ I said, ‘seasoned words for this season’.
At the break of yesterday, to the cells in my ventricles, my strawberry said, ‘you will always be celebrated’. ‘Wow’, I muttered and I hoped it was true as I strode away.
This morning, at the drop of the last dew, I glanced at my strawberry and as I resolved to ignore it, my strawberry opened its petals, dropped a grain, and from the lushness of its pink, I heard, ‘Sanmi, I’ve got your back but God is all around you’
Then it struck me, I can’t but tell of the secret of my assurance…my strawberry: the STRongest AWesome one BEhind EvERRYthing.
You are so cute, I can’t keep mute.
‘I love you so much my strawberry. I wish you’ll never wither’.

NIGERIA’S POPULATION: DISDAINED, YET A BLESSING – Sanmi Abiodun
24 12 2009Have you ever wondered why Nigeria is called the giant of Africa?
Over the years, Africa has celebrated Nigeria while Nigerians have treated themselves with disdain, viewing the nation’s population from the eye of a one-eyed pessimist. So much is said by both foreign and indigenous reporters criticizing the quantity of Nigeria’s population but have we taken time to personally critique the same population?
Welcome to an appreciation of the quality of the Nigerian population.
Nigeria is the only nation to have an almost equal gender distribution. Approximately 50% male and 50% female… what a blessing!
47% of Nigeria’s population are teenagers and below, which means that not only do we have a current population to celebrate, the future is also secure… good news!
My favourite part; due to our vast and various population, we have a strong military force serving as a precautionary measure in the event of adversity, we have a large market, hence the influx of foreign investors craving spaces here, and we also have a strong and vibrant labour force.
Nigeria’s population is a gold mine. There is absolutely no type of talent, specie of csuccess or potential for productivity that is not embedded here. From the computer genius; Philip Emegwali to the literary icon; Wole Soyinka. From the mathematical guru; Segun Odegbami to the football hero; Jay Jay Okocha…
Res Ipsa Loquitor!
What a blessing of a population!

INDECENT DRESSING BILL: SHOULD OUR LEADERS TELL US WHAT TO WEAR AND WHERE TO WEAR IT?
14 12 2009When citizens refuse to take initiative, should we have to wait for God?
In a nation as religiously volatile as Nigeria, our leaders should be compelled to make laws on dressing firstly because we have proven that we prefer to convert private property (our bodies) to public liabilities , and that has resulted in various crimes.
Also, Sudan, through Article 152 of her Criminal Code enacted a similar law in 1991 and the rate of sexual offences has reduced drastically. But in Nigeria, our sisters are still violated, our fiancés are raped! What exactly are our leaders waiting for?
We may recognize the freedom of expression and initiative, but as Thomas Fortune said in 1927, necessity supersedes all laws. It has therefore become imperative that our leaders step into the arena of conflict and salvage the situation. The earlier our leaders take responsibility, the better for us.

REBRANDING NIGERIA: WILL IT BE BENEFICIAL TO NIGERIANS?
14 12 2009October 16, 2004, I saw the nakedness of my dearest uncle, Uncle kay, not in his bathroom but at the prestigious Heathrow Airport in London. He was being subjected by the officials of the British Immigration Service to a routine strip search, strictly for Nigerians. I was ashamed to be one.
Foreign reporters have nothing good to say about us. Even President Bill Clinton of the United States, said in his book, “My life”, that Nigeria is a nation characterized by power outage. Fellow Nigerians, that has been our brand. But would we not rather embrace a rebrand? Are we going to sit back wondering if a rebrand will be beneficial?
Consider this, after rebranding, our children will be able to get the education that we desire and they deserve. You and I will stop thinking about foreign hospitals for intensive medical care. The stigma on us as being naturally and potentially corrupt will be eradicated. We will become confident in our nationality. Do these benefits not justify rebranding? They do.
So let’s stop talking, let’s start walking and let’s start working.
Together we can realize the innocent dreams of our childhood.
Together we can establish Nigeria once again as the Giant of Africa.
Together we can bequeath a better heritage for our children yet unborn.
TOGETHER! TOGETHER!! TOGETHER!!!
We may not make it in a day, we may not even make it in a year but we will make it.

AND YOU ARE…?
19 11 2009Its wild, it’s witty, it chokes and it kills. It’s not found everywhere but it’s like that everywhere it’s found. Disorganized and wicked, it ravages the crops, the animals and the environment. You just cannot see through and neither can you seep through. Your mind cannot comprehend it because your eyes cannot behold it. It shuts your eyes, with or without your consent and mixes with its director although it’s not obedient. It’s not the gospel… it’s the dust.
As terrible as the dust is, it has an elder brother. Stronger in muscle and well built. Spreading fast, its highly destructive and leaves a paint on everything that comes in contact with it. Equally driven by the wind but not controlled by it. It tries to rival the power of the sun but where are the tears beside the ocean? The snail has a horn but why not knock down a man? Its fierceness is great but not beside the sun. It’s none other. Still not the gospel… it is fire.
The fire is powerful, but what about the sun? They both provide heat, i think. But what happens to the plants under the control of either of them? The sun constructs but the fire destroys. The sun blesses but the fire is dangerous. I guess they both give light but what is the fire’s surface area beside that of the sun? The butterfly thinketh itself a bird.
Now here’s the question. You are another of God’s creation. Are you dust, fire or the sun? Why not be a good combination. Have the effect of dust, the ferocity of fire and impact like the sun. What you have to do is unadorned. If you can’t keep the attributes to yourself, give them to the gospel. Make it of great and grievous effect, be ferocious in doing it and make it both impactful and constructive.
It’s a cycle, it will come back to you and you will never regret it
See you at the top.
